Tutorial 6: The Bouncing Head
- Create a bouncing ball as described here.
- Start by drawing a simple happy face on the first frame.
-
Continue through all the rest of the key frames and use the line recorder to draw the face again on each ball.
NOTE: You may want to add more lines in one key frame than are in another. This is easily done by simply drawing extra lines or not drawing lines (skipping with the line recorder) that you don't want to show up in the frame. Remember that if a line does not have a match in a neighboring key frame, it will not show up in the inbetweens. There are many ways to help lines appear or disappear “gracefully”. You can shrink them down to a dot and then remove the dot, you can move them on top of other lines before removing them, or you can cover them up with solid shapes. - You may find it necessary to make adjustments to more inbetweens instead of just the existing key frames. Remember, every time you adjust an inbetween, it becomes a new key frame. Every time you delete a key frame, you will most likely need to readjust the timing and paths of motion around it. For more information on dealing with keys inbetweens and the time line, click here.
- When adding shapes, you may find that you want to change which shape is on top of another. To do this, you use the layers window described here. Remember that adjusting the layer ordering of a shape can change the ordering of that shape for the specific key frame or for all key frames. The layer ordering on inbetweens is based on the ordering of the first key frame of the pair.
- Now that we have a face, we need to make sure it follows the ball properly. We can do that by attaching the lines of the face to the bone we setup in a previous tutorial. Remember, you only need to attach the face lines to the bone in one frame.
And there you have it. A bouncing ball with a face. You're well on your way to becoming a TweenMaster!
